Centenary Events
Shinfield Baptist held their first meeting the Sunday after Pentecost in 1908 above a cycle shop in the village. By September of 1909, just 15 months later, land had been purchased and a church hall built which is where the church still meets today.
Church members decided to put in place a series of events during 2008 to celebrate the founding of the church. Believing that ‘the road to the future runs through the past’ we honoured those linked with the founders with a special service and lunch and many former members and friends returned from different parts of the country for a Sunday of celebration services followed by lunch and a cream tea in June.
We also wanted to benefit the community in which we live and serve and so we also hosted a tea for senior citizens, a community bike ride as well as a community fun day on school green where children bounced their way down the blow-up mega slide, had a ride on a surf simulator, had their faces painted, and tried on police uniform before the day rounded off with a hog roast appreciated by all.
