The Vital Role of Worship in Prayer
Praying as Jesus teaches you gives you freedom. The Lord’s prayer begins with worship of God. And worship of God brings freedom because it centres us on God since where the Spirit of God is there is freedom. This true worship frees you from the worship of other things which only bring slavery and disappointment.
Worship restores your relationship with God, his family and his world. It restores the proper order of things in your life as it makes Jesus greater and you less. Where Jesus is greater love is greater, kindness is greater, boldness is greater, mercy is greater, justice is greater. As draw closer to God in worship, as you were made to do in the beginning, you see how much he loves you. Worship restores to you the joy of your salvation As you understand how much the Father loves you – choosing you and giving his Son Jesus in exchange for you (Paul prayed that the church would know how wide and high and deep is the love of God), your love for him grows and your love for others grows. As you worship you regain a vision of the true order of things and how the world should, could and one day will be.
As you praise God for who he is and thank him for what he has done your confidence grows to ask him to do more in your life, the life of your family, community and world.
