Why Should I Pray?
You pray because Jesus prayed. Prayer is about relationship. It’s a conversation. Like all good conversation it deepens the relationship between participants.
The ultimate relationship model is God the Father and Jesus the Son. In John 17 you have a record of Jesus’ prayer to the Father that can serve as a model for you. Jesus first acknowledges who he is in God, then he prays for himself, then he prays for his close companions, then the wider Christian family and the world.
Therefore in prayer you discover who God is and who you are. You learn how much God loves you and in response you express your love for him. Prayer grows your relationship with God and God’s relationship with his people and the whole world
